The South African actor, who has a co-starring turn in the Palme d’Or winning satire, died of an unexpected illness in New York City
In 2008, she survived a car crash that broke her wrist, four ribs and elbow and left her with a collapsed lung.
Born and raised in Cape Town, Dean began modeling in her childhood before making her film debut as an actress in 2010’s Spud.
She is also known for her work on the CW show "Black Lightning," where she played Syonide

Dean starred as Yaya opposite Harris Dickinson as Carl in Triangle of Sadness, directed by Sweden’s Ruben Östlund.
